There is a lot of debate over whether to use seam tapes on metal roofs or just caulk over the seams. Seam tapes tend to to fish mouth and cause problems, caulking only seem to have high callback rates. So what do we do? We explore both options and analyze both safety margin and failure rates.
How to Seal Laps
Self adhering seam tapes are installed on center and is pressed firmly into place with a steel roller. If you just use your fingers, there will be areas of weak adhesion that may cause problems in the future.
