Polyurethane Foam Roof

Polyurethane Foam Roof

Sprayed Polyurethane Foam must be protected by elastomeric coatings to prevent ultraviolet-induced surface degradation.

When foam is visible, apply a protective coating without delay!

Common Issues

UV Degradation Interlaminar Blistering Wet Foam
UV Degradation – A majority of SPF failures occur because of the loss or erosion of the protective elastomeric coating. Interlaminar Blisters – These are usually caused by installer error or equipment problems. Blisters must be removed and area must be re-foamed. Wet Foam – When the protective coating is broken, moisture infiltration can accelerate deterioration. Wet foam should be removed and new foam installed.

Polyurethane Foam Roof Maintenance

Sprayed polyurethane foam should be inspected annually and recoated every 10 years.

Polyurethane Foam Roof Coating

Acrylic Coating
Water Based System

Our EnergyGuard® Acrylic Elastomeric Coating is frequently installed on polyurethane foam during the initial installation stage or as a maintenance recoat.

Silicone Coating
Solvent Based System

Our EnergyGuard® Silicone Elastomeric Coating provides a protective topcoat with excellent weathering over polyurethane foam. It should be used to recoat silicone-coated polyurethane foam roofs.
